Historical Sites & Museums
Byers-Evans House & Denver History Museum - A visit to the Byers-Evans House Museum includes docent-guided tours and a video on the Byers and Evans families which illustrates how the careers of family members were intertwined for over four decades. Another interpretive feature of the house is the Denver History Museum. Located in the renovated carriage house of the Byers-Evans House, this state-of-the-art videodisc history of Denver incorporates both hands-on elements and traditional exhibit displays highlighting Denver's colorful and diverse past.  (303) 620-4933
Children's Museum of Denver - The Children's Museum of Denver is where play and learning is fun! Journey into a hands-on environment that sparks creativity, curiosity and imagination. It's where children become amateur scientists, storytellers, artists and engineers. There's even an outdoors KidSport TM center with year-round skiing, snowboarding and inline skating lessons. Colorado History Museum - The Colorado History Museum has the area's largest collections detailing the colorful lives, history, and diversity of Colorado's people - the Indians, Hispanos, miners, pioneers and others who came to call this country home. Our state's historic treasures, including outstanding collections of American Indian artifacts, detailed dioramas, and compelling photographs, reflect over a thousand years of life in Colorado and the West.  (303) 866-3682
Denver Firefighters Museum - Located in a former working firehouse constructed in 1909, this is the only museum dedicated to preserving the history and artifacts of the Fire Department. Self guided or assisted tours available. We specialize in children who can try on kid sized fire gear and drive our antique fire engine. Museum available for private parties and receptions. Denver Art Museum - World-famous for its American Indian collection, the Denver Art Museum also possesses fine pre-Columbian, Spanish Colonial, Asian, Modern & Contemporary, and Architecture, Design & Graphics collections. New galleries showcase European, American and Western painting, sculpture, design and textiles. Special/traveling exhibitions, including Matisse from The Baltimore Museum of Art (March12-June 25, 2000). Daily tours; Museum Shop; Palettes Restaurant. Four Mile Historic Park - Affordable family outings in the heart of the city, guided tours of the 1859 Four Mile House stage stop and Victorian-era home; self-guided grounds tours; weekend horse-drawn rides around the 11-acre park; seasonal heritage events featuring traditional craft demonstrations, food, and old-time entertainment; Wednesday night summertime picnic concert series. The Metropolitan State College Center For The Visual Arts -  The Center for the Visual Arts, a department of the Metropolitan State College of Denver, is one of Denver's most vibrant cultural institutions. A recipient of the 1992 Mayor's Award for Excellence in the Arts, and the 1997 Downtown Denver Award, The Center hosts exhibitions of culturally diverse artists and offers lectures, workshops and tours. Molly Brown House - The home of "the unsinkable Molly Brown," restored to the period of 1910. Costumed guides tell about the life and legends of Denver's heroine of the Titanic. The museum's carriage house gift shop features an extensive collections of Victoriana, Titanic Memorabilia, books, cards, and other items. Hours: Tue.-Sat. 10am-3:30pm, Sun. 12-3:30pm.
